We make every effort to be as environmentally friendly as possible here at SRJ Sunrooms. Since our home improvement business was established in 1992, we have put significant time and effort into ‘going green’. If you are looking to work with eco-conscious installers for your conservatory, orangery, or house extension project, look no further than SRJ Sunrooms.
The manufacturing and home improvement sectors are responsible for a significant amount of environmental damage. Whether it is chemicals produced during product manufacturing or waste sent to landfills, many renovation companies negatively impact the earth. Here at SRJ Sunrooms, we are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise any harm we may be causing the planet.
Here are the steps we are taking to be more environmentally friendly:
We are committed to recycling as much of our waste products as possible. At SRJ Sunrooms, we have worked hard to send zero waste to landfills. When disposing of uPVC windows, roof and door profiles, we remove the glass panels and sort the materials into our 10 separate recycling bins and skips. We work closely with waste management companies, ensuring all materials stay out of landfill sites.
We recycle uPVC frames by breaking them apart on site, and they are then shredded and sent away to be repurposed and given a new life as something else. We are dedicated to promoting the green life cycle of our uPVC. In 2023 alone, we recycled 44 tonnes of uPVC frames!
There are many different materials involved in sunroom manufacturing. Our installations are made up of double glazed panels and uPVC or aluminium frames. When it is time to replace your SRJ conservatory, orangery, or garden room, we recycle as many waste materials as we can. We recycle 100% of our metal waste, including all window and door handles, as well as locks. Working closely with our waste disposal partners, we are able to keep over 8 tonnes of aluminium and steel out of landfill each year.
At SRJ Sunrooms, we also work with timber when developing our high quality structures. As we do with our old uPVC, waste timber is shredded and repurposed. Our recycled wood is used to make new laminate flooring and flat pack furniture. Thanks to our efforts to be more eco-conscious, we were able to recycle 140 tonnes of timber in 2022.
In 2023, we also recycled over 4 tonnes of paper, cardboard, polythene, and plastic waste. Following every installation, we ensure 100% recycling of our cardboard and paper waste. Our professional team works hard to ensure as much of our waste is recycled as possible, be that on the construction site or in our office.
We are committed to improving our recycling efforts and plan to reuse and repurpose even more of our waste products in the future. Here at SRJ, we now recycle all of our used glass panes into new glass. We are also working closely with our waste management and glass partners to achieve this in 2024. Though we began this process in summer 2023, till December 2023, we managed to recycle 35 tonnes of glass!
At SRJ Sunrooms, we are taking several steps in the right direction, reducing our carbon footprint through all the methods outlined in this article. However, our work is not done, and we continue to strive towards being kinder to the planet. To help us offer homeowners the ‘greenest’ installations possible, we are SEPA regulated. This achievement means all of our staff are trained in the proper disposal of non recyclable materials and know how to recycle our waste materials best. By working with our SEPA regulated business, you can be confident that you will receive an environmentally friendly installation for your home.
Unfortunately, not all of the materials we work with can be recycled. While some of our waste materials can’t be given a fresh lease of life, we have a zero landfill policy, and we use eco-conscious disposal methods instead. Whenever possible, our bi-products are sent to MVV Energy For Waste in Dundee to be repurposed. Once received, heat is captured from our silicone, dust, wood shavings, foam filled plastics and other non recyclable materials and is used to warm homes and businesses in Dundee and the surrounding areas.
At SRJ Sunrooms, we install energy efficient sunrooms, orangeries, conservatories, and extensions across Scotland. Our double glazed installations offer high levels of thermal performance and will reduce your home’s carbon footprint.
By choosing us for your home improvement project, you are making an environmentally friendly decision! We are committed to improving our recycling efforts and are always working hard to be as green as possible.
